Blue Planet Detectives Project - Week 3 - Animal Worldă
From an inquisitive child to a little scientist is a sure step! And the children of the "Rosemary" Day Centre have taken this step towards the Animal World, through a unique, educational and fun experience, right here .... on the Blue Planet. Games, creating animal masks, painting, worksheets, origami, stories, discussions and debates about both domestic and wild animals were the challenges encountered on the way to getting to know and connect with the Earth's non-living creatures.
The little ones' curiosities were summarised in questions such as: How do ants communicate and eat? Why do birds make all kinds of sounds? Do mammals live only on land? What do animals eat? How do penguins protect their young? And they were amazed to learn that an ant has no lungs, breathing through the pores of the membrane covering its body, and has two stomachs: one for storing food for itself and the other for the colony; butterfly wings are actually transparent but covered with thousands of microscopic scales that reflect light in a variety of colours; a tiger's teeth look like a dagger; or a platypus is one of the few mammals endowed by nature with a venomous spur.
In the company of Tom, the Centre's cat, and to stimulate their imagination, the story "The lame puppy" has opened children's minds to the idea that all living creatures need to be looked after with care. This is in addition to the respect we must show to all nature on Earth.
And as the week draws to a close, the little detectives have boarded the space shuttle for a fascinating journey to the cosmic world.
