Information campaign for the marginalised community in Targu Mures
on contraception
World Contraception Day is celebrated on 26 September each year, with the aim of raising awareness about the importance of family planning by using contraception for better reproductive health.
The Directorate of Social Assistance (DAS) Târgu Mureș in collaboration with the Directorate of Public Health (DSP) Mureș carried out on Thursday, 26.09.2024, an information campaign on contraception for the marginalised community of Târgu Mureș. The theme of the day was "A choice for all. The freedom to plan, the power to choose."
"We want to facilitate access to health services for Roma women, reduce inequalities and prevent unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) by distributing condoms, as well as increase awareness about puberty, pregnancy, contraceptive methods, healthy relationships. Contraception is a need and a right for everyone regardless of social status, and knowledge of and access to contraceptive methods is one of the most important aspects in the life of every young man/young woman starting their sexual life, and hence the need for sex education. The health of one's sexual life lies in the freedom of choice of the contraceptive method that is most suitable for each individual, and access to these methods should not be restricted by anyone or anything." DAS Târgu Mureș representatives said.
The aim of the campaign is to draw attention to the importance of reproductive health and family planning, to inform and increase the interest of the general population, especially young people, including minors in disadvantaged areas, about the importance of using contraceptive methods, knowing all the options for preventing unwanted pregnancies.
