All children have the right to an adequate standard of living and education that ensures their full development. Given that most of what is learned in school is presented visually, seeing well is essential to learning well and increasing academic performance.
Checking eyesight and wearing corrective eyeglasses are essential for health and education, which is why the Social Welfare Department of Targu Mures, together with the Save the Children Organization - Mures Branch, started the implementation of the project "See well, learn well, grow well!".The project "See well, see well, see well" will assess the eye health of 500 children from disadvantaged backgrounds in the municipality of Targu Mures, aged between 6 and 8 years, offering them the appropriate optimal correction through eyeglasses.
Among them are 33 children attending the "Rosemary" Day Centre. The children have had their eyes checked and those who have been identified as having visual problems will be provided with the necessary glasses following a medical prescription.
The children involved in this project will also benefit from regular vision assessments and their school performance will be monitored.
After the "Rozmarin" Day Centre, other educational establishments in Târgu Mureș with vulnerable pupils will follow, so that by the end of November 2022, all 500 pupils in the project's target group will be screened.
The project "See well, learn well, grow well!", funded by the Municipality of Targu Mures through the Targu Mures Social Assistance Department within the funding session for projects in the field of social assistance "Social cohesion in the community" 2022.
