Târgu Mureș Social Assistance Department distributes powdered milk for newborns
Târgu Mure Social Assistance Department distributes free milk powder, infant formula, on prescription from your family doctor, for children aged 0 to 12 months who are not breastfed and who meet the following criteria:
- with mothers with contraindications to breastfeeding (serious illness: Active pulmonary TB, neoplasia, cachexia, septicaemia, severe mental illness, epilepsy, eclampsia, multiple sclerosis, renal, hepatic or cardiac insufficiency, decompensated diabetes mellitus, thyrotoxicosis, HIV-infected mother, treatment with cytostatics, diazepines, anticonvulsants, anticoagulants, radioisotopes, drug use or addiction to alcohol, tobacco leading to intoxication of the child);
- healthy children with unsatisfactory growth (below the lower limit of normal age) due to absence of breast milk. The unsatisfactory growth of the child will be recorded in the child's medical record, after assessment of the breastfeeding technique and weight curve by the family doctor/pediatrician or neonatologist. The decision to grant formula milk is taken only if one of the following conditions is met:
- the baby has not regained its birth weight after two weeks of life;
- the child aged 0 - 8 months gains less than 500 g/month;
- the child older than 8 months gains less than 250 g/month;
- adopted or foster child;
- with a deceased mother.
The milk powder boxes are collected by the legal representative of the child who meets the above mentioned criteria, from the Social Assistance Department of Targu Mures, Gheorghe Doja Street, no. 9, room 9, on the basis of the following documents:
- Identity card of the legal representative in original;
- Prescription issued by the family doctor valid for the current month.
Please note that the Mures Public Health Department centralizes and updates monthly the information contained in the files of children between 0 - 12 months who benefit from the provision of powdered milk, in accordance with the health legislation, files reported by family doctors and sends to the Social Assistance Department of Targu Mures information on the quantity of powdered milk distributed.

The milk powder is granted according to the provisions of Law no. 321/2001 on free milk powder for children aged 0-12 months who do not receive breast milk and Order no. 1.253/2006 approving the methodological rules for the application of Law no. 321/2001 on free milk powder for children aged 0-12 months who do not receive breast milk.
