"GALOPING THERAPY" for adults with disabilities - Project funded by the Social Assistance Department of Targu Mures
Transylvanian Alpha Foundation through ATRIUM Day Centre implements the project "Therapy in gallop" for adults with special needs, a project funded by the Social Assistance Department of Targu Mures within the session "Social cohesion in the community" edition 2023.
The aim of the project is to increase the quality of life of 35 adults with associated/severe disabilities attending the ATRIUM Day Centre for Adults with Disabilities, average age 35.
The project's first 15 weekly sessions of hypnotherapy have gone exceptionally well, triumphing over the fears of the disabled people present.
Through weekly horse therapy sessions, of which there will be 15, the aim is to learn new skills that contribute to independence and confidence, reducing or eliminating anxiety or depression in adults with special needs.
Hippotherapy or horse-assisted therapy, after only a few sessions, has quick visible results, for body and head posture and has emotional benefits, increasing self-confidence, eliminating fits of anger or crying caused by feelings of helplessness and helplessness, dependence on a companion, inability to solve simple tasks, lowering stress and anxiety levels, improving balance, improving neurological functions of coordination, balance.
Among the objectives of this therapy method are:
- Maintaining balance and achieving the most functional position by stimulating muscles and aligning body segments;
- Stimulating attention;
- Spatial orientation;
- Developing decision-making and organisational skills;
- Language and motor development;
- Boost memory and concentration;
- Promote emotional expression and communication; Release inhibitions and fear related to riding.
Animal-assisted therapy promotes positive human-animal interaction by incorporating the psychological, behavioural and physical traits of an animal into a therapeutic environment, with the aim of facilitating the recovery process of a patient in need of physical and/or mental health care.
